4:00 a.m.
That's what time I wake up every day. Well, to be honest, sometimes it's 3:48. And sometimes it's 4:02. But you get the picture.
That's not what time I WANT to get up. It's just what time my brain decides I need to be awake. Most of the time I'll fall back into a fitful doze until my alarm goes off at 5:00.
I get up feeling very groggy and not at all rested.
This has been going on for about two weeks now and frankly, I'm getting tired of it. I'm tired of being tired. I want to SLEEP.
I've never had problems sleeping. Any time, anywhere, give me some quiet, a light blanket, and dim the lights and I'm out. I'm a consummate napper, though lately I've given those up too. There just isn't enough time.
I suppose I could go to bed early, but I go to bed now between 9:00 and 9:30. I'm just not sure I can go to bed any earlier. I need my child-free time almost as much as I need my sleep.
So, I'm about to take desperate measures. I bought a sleep aid. I've used them occasionally before but I don't like to take them too often. I told Mr. Daddy today that I just want one night. Just one night. That's all I need.
My moments of grace over the past couple of days:
1. Singing O Come O Come Emmanuel at church.
2. Having a girls night with Punkin on Friday evening.
3. Finding new and old friends on Facebook and finding out that I haven't been forgotten. (yes, I finally joined the 21st century)
4. Watching Punkin and Bubba give each other a hug before bedtime.
5. Publix birthday cakes (sorry, Matt!)

I went through a period when I couldn't sleep for more than four hours an night, and not consecutively. After a while, even Tylenol PM didn't help. It was horrible. When my doctor finally gave me a prescription for sleeping pills, I almost kissed him. I only needed them for a few weeks, and then I was back on track. Weird, eh?
Sometimes, our sleep schedule needs rewiring. If it gets really bad, talk to your doctor. Usually all it takes is a week or so to get back on track and then you don't need the meds.
On the bright side, be lucky you're not in my neighborhood and I knew you just happened to be up at 4 am, which is coincidentally when my 5-month old wants to eat, or you'd have a very hungry but very adorable thing to kill your time. :)
I've had sleep issues for years - not fun. Hope you're back on track soon.
What a downer. I nap with my kid every single afternoon - and am terrified of the day that he stops the midday nap. I'll go into mourning when that happens.
I went through a spell like this for awhile. It was so frustrating, but I'm like you. I need some child-free time, and even though I'm exhausted, I feel wide awake by the time I get the boys to bed and suddenly, hours have gone by before I then go to bed.
I bought some pain medicine-free sleep aid and used it for a couple days, just so I could get some deep sleep. I did help, and I've tried going to bed a bit earlier to read (which automatically makes me fall asleep!), so it's baby steps. I hope you get some sleep soon, too!
sleep? what's sleep???
So, how do juggle blogging AND facebook???? My friends keep trying to get me to join, but I fear a new addiction.....
I have had terrible insomnia most of my life, and I wake up two or three times a night, even when I do get to sleep. The ONLY time I ever slept good was when I had a terrible tooth infection, and I was taking serious pain meds (hydracodone?) I tell ya, I slept like a baby. sigh.
I have gone through those periods too. Hopefully it won't last long. They tell me now it is a function of my age. Middle age sucks.
Ugh. I'm sorry you're not sleeping! When I have bouts of insomnia, it's the opposite - I can't fall asleep. I hope you get your rest. If I were closer, I'd take the kids for an afternoon so you could catch up!
I would pay money... big money, to see my two teenage girls VOLUNTARILY hug one another.
I hope you have a wonderful nights sleep tonight!
Are you stressed out? When I got my Xanex prescription, I was told anxiety and stress really screw with sleeping.
