I have to admit, I'm a little in awe of celebrities. Maybe that's not the best word, but I love seeing celebrities and I love hearing about other people's run-ins with them.
Not that I've seen that many, really. When I used to travel to New York, my boss would see someone amazing EVERY TIME. He saw Michael Jackson when Michael was protesting that time outside of the Sony Building. He saw Reese Witherspoon when she was in NY to promote Legally Blonde I and II.
Another co-worker met Julia Roberts backstage at the David Letterman Show.
The only celebrities I ever saw in NY was Jocelyn Wildenstein (FUH-REAK! don'tclickthelink, don'tclickthelink, don'tclickthelink) and Meredith Baxter Birney. Um, yeah. Oh yeah, and I met Rick and Kathy Hilton, Paris and Nicky Hilton's parents, right before Paris and Nicky started being EVERYWHERE.
As for celebrities that I've actually met, I've met Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie. They both came to eat at my dad's restaurant when Lionel was helping Kenny produce one of his albums.
And I'm not sure you can count this as "meeting," but once, when we lived in Hilton Head, SC, I was working at Walden Books at the mall and noticed a very tall, stunningly gorgeous woman. I was deep in thought, trying to figure out who she was when I rounded one of the stacks and bumped smack into John Cougar Mellencamp. The blonde was his wife, model Elaine Irwin. For the record, JCM is shorter than I am (I'm 5'4") and his head is, um, hmmm...how shall I put this? Large?
So that's about it for me. What about you? Who have you met? Who do you know?

I lived a few miles away from Bon Jovi and see him often in Red Bank. Once ate a whole meal three feet away at a table in a restaurant. He and Bruce Springsteen are often in the same areas we hang out in. But, the locals never treat them any differently and very few bother them.
Um...pretty much nobody. Well, Jerry Seinfeld came into the bookstore the afternoon he had a show in Des Moines. That was pretty high class for us!
Elton John in Nice. President Bush at the rodeo.
I met and got my picture taken with Yo Yo Ma. He's pretty cool. Can't think of anyone else...
I love celebrity encounter! I met Stephen Colbert when I went to see Chicago the Musical in New York a couple years ago. And Bob Seger keeps his boat a few wells over from us at our marina.
Do you remember the music groups "The Jetts" from like the mid-80's. Yeah. The lead singer autographed his sweat towel for me. Oooh, gross!
And I ran into Tony Bennet in an elevator in Reno, NV. I was chaperoning a senior trip. The youngins had no idea who he was, but I said something really witty like, "Wow! I never imagined we'd run into you here." Yup. I'm pretty cool.
In fact, I'm so cool that when I was 14 and I got to meet our church's next president/prophet (which would be sort of like a catholic meeting the pope) I didn't really speak to him, but I did ask his bodygaurd if "he could really kill someone with his bare hands." ??? My mother was so very, very proud.
By the way, Tony Bennet was not very effusive, but then again he's like what? 103? He's still alive, isn't he?
I haven't met anyone interesting. Totally stinks. A friend of mine had a cousin in Jars of Clay. The guy is still with Jars of Clay -- which is a Christian band. They are awesome.
I briefly met the interim gov. for PA...forgot his name. Again...totally dull.
Wow...I'm boring. Wish I could be like my friend who almost ran over Chevy Chase....
When I was in my early 20's and working in a swanky night club in Houston, I met ZZ Top. Well, the two long bearded guys, Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill.
Sadly, that's about it for me, I guess.
I've met Dolly Parton and those guys from Milli Vanilli. I STILL don't know which one was Milli and which one was Vanilli.
Oh and some soap opera star from a soap opera I'd never heard of.
I don't KNOW anyone famous, but I've seen alot of celebrities. I grew up in a resort area where alot of celebrities rented summer places for their families if they were working on projects in neighboring metropolitan areas. It was pretty cool.
My parents worked for the airlines and encountered many celebrities - some the reported were lovely and some were horrid. My dad had Jon Bon Jovi kicked off a plane once and said "he must have been on drugs!" at the time - but then he seemed to think everyone was on drugs at the time.
You know what's not nice? When you link to a freak and tell me not to click. You are aware that I'm incapable of following instructions, right? NOW GET THAT IMAGE OUT OF MY HEAD. YUCK!
I had dinner with David Spade one time. Really. Same table. He's an idiot.
I've met a ton of politicians - and all of them are politicians I can't stand! Why can't I meet at least one who I like? I HATE ALL THE ONES I'VE MET!
that whole "dontclickthelink" thing was just mean.
I've never seen or met anyone but my husband did accost Alec Baldwin in a Provino's one time. He started in on this speech he gave at the end of Glen Gary Glen Ross. I didn't know him then so I wasn't there to be embarrassed. :)
OK, that link for that chick was SCARY. Looked like a wax statue. I did meet Emeril and got him to sign a check of mine. That's all I had on me.
I've served popcorn to Martina Navratalova and watched Dennis Rodman make a fool of himself in Miami this summer. I met the team from Overhaulin' when my partner and I went to SEMA a few years ago. I've met a buncha movie/ telly type folks at Dragon Con.
And I know a lot of pr0n stars.
I met President Bush and was on his Social Security town hall panel--his secret service and armed guards were freakin' scary.
I waited on Jim Davis (Garfield creator) at the restaurant I worked at during college (he's one of our famous alumni...uh...alumns...uh...you know what I'm saying). He was very nice, very understanding of the wind storm that knocked out the phone lines (and credit card machines), and was able to scratch up enough cash for his bill and a very nice tip.
I walked out of the ladies room at Lollapalooza one year and ran smack into George Clinton (of Parliament fame). I just stuttered an astonished apology, and he replied, "it's cooool, baby!" and went on his way.
Justin got to meet Art Garfunkle, Gordon Lightfoot, Belafleck & the Flecktones, and Bill Cosby. I was not there when this occurred. I'm not bitter or anything.
