I've decided that today is Memory Lane Monday. This may be an occasionally occurring series of Madame Queen flashbacks. We may go back thirty years, we may only go back five. Tonight we're going back 25 years and tonight's trip down memory lane is brought to you by Michael Jackson. And Angie over at All Adither. Yesterday in her Confession Sunday post, she alerted me to the fact the the 25th Anniversary edition of Thriller is now available and I immediately went down the wormhole of memory. And if you read my comment on her blog, you know where this story is going.
For me, a lot of memories are tied to music. And when I was in 6th grade, the video for Thriller came out right about the same time I was invited to my first boy/girl party. I couldn't wait to go to this party.
This was back when neon colors were all the rage and my mom bought me the coolest outfit to wear. It was a neon green, blousy cotton top and white pants with neon pink, green, and yellow zigzags all over them. I also had these amazing neon green chain mail earrings that hung all the way to my shoulders. I was HOT. Well, as hot as a sixth grader could be. I was definitely cool.
Now I had had boyfriends fairly steadily ever since third grade, but I had never been kissed. And frankly, the thought of being kissed scared me pretty much to death. In fact, my fifth grade boyfriend had broken up with me because I wouldn't kiss him at 4-H camp. But as soon as everybody found out I was going to the party, they all started talking about how my boyfriend, Alec, and I would have to kiss.
I tell you, I almost didn't go.
The night started out fine. Everybody gathered in Jason's parents' living room to watch the video for Thriller. We turned out the lights and ate popcorn and everybody was so amazed when little innocent Michael turned into a werewolf (HEY! is that a metaphor that we all missed?!).
But then. Then. The video was over and it was time for the dancing to begin. Everybody went down to Jason's basement. They had a big stereo set up and streamers and balloons were everywhere. They had moved the furniture to the edges of the room so we could dance, but I saw it for what it really was. A trap!
A slow song came on. I can't even remember what it was -- adrenaline had taken over at that point -- and Alec and I were dancing. Then, the lights went out. And the next thing I knew his mouth was on mine and his tongue was down my throat.
I'm pretty sure I remember thinking "Who in the world came up with this and what made them think this would be fun?" It wasn't fun. It wasn't exciting. It was just...slimy. And nauseating.
So nauseating, in fact, that when the lights came on I had to flee upstairs. And there I sat, upstairs with Jason's parents, waiting on my mom to arrive.
Alec was confused and I think his feelings were a little bit hurt. There's nothing quite so embarrassing as making your girlfriend sick with your kiss. A couple of people were teasing me. I'm pretty sure I lost a lot of social cred that night. But at least I kept my dinner.

Ahh, yes. I remember my first "real" kiss. Doug Casper,
7th grade. I did not see it coming at all and was totally taken off gaurd. I couldn't tell if all the blood was rushing to my head or from it. I'm just thankful I didn't pass out. I think the only other time my heart beat so frantically was when I rode The Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere in Vegas and thought for sure I was about to meet my maker.
Yeah. Good times.
Confession: sometimes, I still think kissing is yucky.lol
We should all reminisce here about our first kiss.
I was not cute in middle school so I didn't get my first kiss until right before tenth grade. I thought I was soo far behind. I met a boy at church camp (of course) and we made out on the swings. I got butterflies in my stomach-- I was so excited. And then we made out everywhere else for the rest of camp, even on the bus back to church. My mom heard about it from all these mothers and I got in trouble.
Awww...I feel bad for 6th grade Madame Queen. Who the hell did he think he was sticking his tongue in your mouth in front of all those people?! Talk about being put on the spot. I think my indignation about your situation stems from my own which was similar in that violated sort of way. I was in 7th grade. 9th grader had been flirting with me for a couple of weeks. 9th grader then walked up directly to me in the cafeteria, and in front of everyone, stuck his tongue in my mouth. I was mortified.
Oooh, I'm so sorry. I must say my first kiss was the complete opposite.
Alec must have been as nervous as you (in an excited boy way) and figured he'd make a huge impression, being your first and all. Poor kid - he did!
My fifth grade boyfriend broke up with me (via one of his friends!) because I wouldn't kiss him too. Also I dated a guy in high school for a good 4 months without kissing him! We eventually broke up because I never wanted to kiss him (his breath! was horrible! All the time!). What is it with the first kiss? So dramatic.
Well, I had to wait until I was a senior in HIGH SCHOOL for any semblance of a kiss. And let me tell you, by then I WANTED it. Badly.

Your kissing episode sounds strangely like the date I had in December. I know the guy was trying to be all passionate, but subtly -- or at least starting out slowly -- can go a long way. The good news is that I was old enough to get into my car and drive away! ;)
Sorry, that's "subtlety" not subtly!
And I had to wait until I was about 14 or 15 for my first kiss (at band camp - oh, yeah!)
I'm with Andreanna--I could do without some days. It might be left over scarring from that horrific first kiss, however. Perhaps I should speak to a professional about this.
I was OLD when I had my first kiss and I saw it coming and had this conversation in my head: "Oh...He going to kiss you! If you don't want to, turn your head...Turn your head!...TURN YOUR HEAD!" He was a good kisser. :-)
I was also a senior in high school, and I definitly saw it coming. I think the tip off came when, after talking about how I'd never kissed anyone, he said, "Want to try?" And let me just say, when he stuck his tongue in my mouth(something I always thought would be revolting)running was the last thing on my mind.
My first kiss was just before I turned 16, and I still get goosebumps (in a good way) thinking about it. Alas, it was the first and only time this boy and I kissed... we were friends but we weren't "going out," he didn't know it was my first kiss, and the moment passed...
I do remember thinking, "Hmmm, I didn't know it would be so slippery..."
Well, this wasn't a first kiss, but I got the same kind of nauseous feeling. When I was in the 7th grade, I had a boyfriend named Walter. Yes, Walter. We were in class sitting at a table with other students, and he put his hand on my knee. I was motified! I couldn't move. Or breathe. I totally broke up with him the next day.
I was in 9th grade. And the boy I kissed seemed to be just as inexperienced as I was. We didn't go out for very long. But I do remember it was rather wet and sloppy. And I wasn't expecting any tongue. But at least not nauseating.
My first peck on the lips was 5th grade but my first full on kiss was in 7th grade. It was a marathon make-out session after school in the student lounge.
The weirdest thing, when I got in the car my mom KNEW. She took one look at me and said, "have you been kissing?" Of course I was appalled and denied any such activity. Now that I think about it, I probably had a massive red ring around my lips. No wonder she knew.
I hope my daughter has a similar experience with her first kiss. And all of the ones thereafter until she gets married. hee!
I was shy about getting my first kiss, my boyfriend at the time was done being patient. We were walking in a park and he just gently pushed my up against a tree and kissed me! It was the worst. My whole lower half of my face was wet, I swear! Fortunatly, I somehow knew it wasn't supposed to be like that. Broke up with him shortly after. :)
