Okay, it's Friday night. I have two more days until Mr. Daddy comes home. This week has not been as hard as I thought it might, but still, I'm tired y'all.
So, I'm going to get something off my chest about the celebrity world. Are you ready?
You'd think I would choose Britney, or Brit Brit as I prefer to call her. But frankly, that case has moved past interesting into tragic.
No, here is the target of my wrath:
Does anybody see what's WRONG with this picture? Why oh why does Suri Cruise still have a bottle at almost two years of age??!! Tom, Katie, what are you doing? Clearly you haven't studied your child development books. I have studied those books. That bottle is a pseudobottle. You're walking around saying that this is okay and being reasonable about when you don't know and I do. There is no such thing as a bottle after 12 months, Tom. All that does is mask the problem. Why are you being so glib about this? (Updated to add: This paragraphs is basically a paraphrase of Tom's rant to Matt Lauer on the Today Show about his disbelief in postpartum depression and the use of antidepressants. I was hoping everybody picked up on this, but based on the first three comments I'm thinking that they didn't. I'm really not this judgemental!)
Where is Brooke Shields when you need her to lay the smackdown on somebody?

Gosh, he's looking fat these days. Maybe it's the angle the photo is taken.
You crack me up. Did your kids seriously drop the bottle at 1 year? Because I've gotta admit that mine didn't.
And we still give Micah one to dose him with medicine. It's so much easier than holding him down and forcing him to swallow.
Suri has the same hairdo as Katie. Ahem, I mean KATE.

My kids were 2 when I finally ended their affairs with the Playtex nursers in all their fancy colors. But, in my defense, I'm lazy.
Actually, both my kids DID give up their bottles at 12 months and it was amazingly easier than I thought it would be. BUT, Punkin still has her higgie (paci) at night so really, I have no room to talk.
Oh, and that whole paragraph under the photo, that's basically a paraphrase of Tom's rant to Matt Lauer on the Today Show about his disbelief in postpartum depression and the use of antidepressants. I was hoping everybody would pick up on that!
Ah, sorry. I had that in the back of my mind as I was reading this. I seriously do not understand how a man of all people can rant on something like that. Unless you've lived through an experience I wouldn't think you'd be any kind of judge to condemn others.
Here's to men living through pregnancy and all the worst that it has to give!
Tom Cruise is Wrong In So Many Ways...just add this one to the list.
To think i had a CRUSH on him!! At least I outgrew that...poor Katie.
Every time I see a photo of her with a bottle, I think the same thing. I do believe they might be trying to pretend she's still a baby, what with the bottles and the way they dress her.
I've never understood the reasoning behind dropping the bottle precisely at 1 yr. We are really into slow transitions in our home. I let London transition from bottle to sippy over the period of about 3 mos. It was so easy that way and not a single tear. We're doing the same thing with The Kirbster but, really, that boy just cares IF & WHEN he's fed, not HOW. lol!
Oh, and Tom went straight to Brooke's house not long after Suri was born and apologized for his statements about PPD.
I still don't like him, though.
It's the scientology stuff. Apparantly they don't believe in "depression" or "anti-depressants." I just figure people who believe that have never met anyone who can't function without them. If that's the case, come meet my family. We're single handedly keeping the depression drug industry afloat.
I am pretty surprised that she's still got a bottle, you know, since he knows all about fatherhood, motherhood, parenting, etc.
I mean, those are great bottles (we have those Playtex bottles, too), but honestly, switch to a sippy cup! I guess maybe their Scientolgist pediatrician didn't warn them about giving up the bottle at about 12 months or so. Plus, if she's old enough to wear the bob like her mommy, I think she's old enough to have a cool kiddy cup. Maybe they have a nice Ron L. Hubbard cup she could use?
ok...done being so snarky ;)
Oh, and Karen, hope I didn't offend!...I think any method that gets a kid to take their medicine is acceptable. :)
I have thought the same thing when I see pictures like this.
We are really really trying to ditch the bottle. Doing pretty good so far but we still use it as a sleep crutch sometimes. He goes most days without the bottle at all but then if he wakes up in the middle of the night or in the middle of a nap I'll break it out. Our ped said he likes to have them off the bottle by 15 months so we've got 2 more months to go.
Now, giving up the boob, that's a whole different story, especially before bed.
I agree with EKB...it's definitely the Scientology stuff. He's a freak, and I'm assuming that there's some kind of reasoning behind her still taking a bottle at 2 years old.
Anyway, Suri is reincarnate of Ron L. Hubbard, didn't you know?
